Dolomites 2024

This September, I went to the Dolomites again with a couple of fellow Clingon Climbing Club members, Dick and Ashley. The idea was to attempt the Bocchette Alta della Brenta in the Western Dolomites. Unfortunately, due to a combination of the weather and not being able to book huts at the weekend resulted in a slightly different plan. The first day, we caught the cable car up to Porthovescovo above Arabba to do the Vis Ferrata della Trincee, an old favourite before a delayed drive to Madonna di Campiglio and an early start on the first leg of the Bocchette. We were caught ina rain storm of 18 hours and arrived at the Rifugio Tucket extremely damp.

The next day we aborted the attempt to do the Bochette and drove back around to do the Via Ferrata Finanzieri on Colac above Canazei. This was quite wet following the heavy rain but we managed to complete it successfully.

We then discovered that the unsettled weather was all over Europe and heavy snow to valley level was forecast for the following day. That night there was nearly a meter of snow in the area.
