Pyrenees June 2024

Once again I was asked to accompany Ibstock Place School’s Gold DofE Assessment to the Pyrenees. This time I joined with Rob Mason, a local IML. We had four teams and due to the large amounts of snow and less than ideal weather we decided to join forces and follow a similar route for the first couple of days. Day 2 saw us crossing the two cols from the Oulettes de Gaube Refuge to the Wallon Refuge. Much of the day we walked in deep snow in poor visibility. It was in fact a lot easier and safer than the groups thought and they enjoyed and excellent day. On day 3 we split the party to follow a couple of routes before returning to Cauterets. All teams were successful and a good experience had by all
